“Edith in the Dark” explores the darker tales and also the darker side of celebrated children’s author, Edith Nesbit (The Railway Children, Five children and It) as she retreats to the attic of the home she shares with her somewhat estranged husband, escaping the ‘boredom’ of yet another social gathering.
But, she is not alone.
Pursued by a mysterious partygoer, she is soon joined by her house keeper, Mrs Thricefold. As midnight approaches, Edith regales the pair - not her much-loved stories for children - but, her tales of terror. Amid this dark and claustrophobic setting a deeper mystery begins to unfold involving all three participants.

Chalice Productions’ youth performance wing - The Boaty Theatre Company - has been selected as one of only 250 youth performance groups across the whole of the UK to take part in the National Theatre Connections Festival 2018. This wonderful news came just as the Creative Development Team were planning a new ‘recruitment drive’ to discover, coach and promote yet more local, talented and energetic young performers for as Head of Design, Terasa Newton, aptly noted “The problem with our brilliant and gifted youngsters is that they keep growing up!”
Being selected to take part in the National Theatre Connections Festival is an incredible achievement indeed and a massive honour that will bring great opportunities both directly to the young people involved and to the wider area of the town besides; placing Ellesmere Port securely on the map in terms of the creative and performing arts industry at a national level.
We will be actively looking for talented 13-19 year-olds with a flair and passion for the dramatic and creative arts to get involved, so more information on auditions and how to get involved with The Boaty Theatre Company, please email Productions@ChaliceMediaGroup.com.

In 2012 Laura Harris stumbled upon a group of local young actors who were helping make a student film at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port. Realising their potential she took them under her wing and was part of the driving force that saw a youth program at the museum come to life, enabling you people in the area to work on productions and work with organisations such as the RSC, MIKRON and MATE Productions.
The same year the group embarked on a Halloween project bringing the site to life with over 100 actors from local theatre groups telling a chilling story based on the ghost stories of the site.
The Boaty Theatre Company was born on the back of this and from young people that occasionally did a bit of drama, our group evolved into a group of young people that showed themselves to be talented actors and our first full length production, directed by Laura was William Shakespeare's: The Tempest.
The Boaty Theatre Company worked hard to develop skills, original plays and reworked classics, but alas - as is the fate of may many small groups - the funding ran out long before the enthusiasm of the group ever could!
And so this is where Chalice Media's Story begins....
Chalice came to be out of the desire to keep the hopes and dreams of our talented, local young people alive. We took the same ethic and ethos of 'The Boaty' into the creation of Chalice, continuing to deliver actor training and workshops, building skill sets and offering opportunities across the board in the performing and production arts, whilst striving to create a sense of civic pride and positivity, self worth and social inclusion through our work in and around Ellesmere Port. A great number of the founding members of the group are still with us, some have moved on to further their careers, doing great and glorious things in the world of creative arts... but they all come home to see us now and again!
You may even catch one of them in a performance from time to time.
In 2016 Chalice Media produced the first EVER "Where There's A Will..." Shakespeare Season at St George's Hall, Liverpool.
Plays included: 'Macbeth', 'The Tempest', 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Much Ado about Nothing'
as well as a promenade piece written and developed specifically for performance at St George's Hall:
